Stonewell Construction · Flat & low-slope roofing

The right system.
For the right slope.

Discuss membrane repair or replacement for flat and low-slope roof sections, porches, additions and garages.

Step by step

Plan for slope, drainage and transitions.

Review the roof

Inspect the existing membrane, deck condition, slope and signs of standing water.

Choose a suitable system

Discuss EPDM, TPO or modified-bitumen options where appropriate to the roof design and installation requirements.

Specify the connections

Define roof edges, seams, penetrations, wall transitions and drainage details.

Agree on the scope

Document removal, decking allowances, materials, cleanup and project-specific warranty terms.

Materials & system details

Compare the system.
Understand the proposal.

EPDM roofing

A rubber membrane option for appropriate low-slope roof designs. Discuss thickness, attachment, seams, penetrations and edge details.

TPO roofing

A thermoplastic membrane with welded seams. The proposal should identify insulation, attachment and roof-transition details.

Modified bitumen

A multi-layer membrane option for suitable low-slope sections. Discuss the base layer, application method and edge treatment.

Final system selection follows an inspection of the roof, slope and existing construction.

Low-slope decisions

Define drainage, insulation and tie-ins.

For a flat or low-slope roof, the membrane is one part of the design. Review the existing substrate, insulation if included, water outlets, roof edges, penetrations and adjoining walls. A porch or addition may need different details from the main sloped roof.

Repair and replacement are different scopes

A compatible local repair may address a defined defect. A replacement proposal should explain removal or any proposed recover, substrate suitability, concealed-damage allowances and the complete new system. Ask how the chosen work accounts for existing drainage concerns.

Before you decide

Questions worth asking.

Can shingles be used on every low-slope roof?

No. Material suitability depends on slope and manufacturer requirements. The proposal should specify a system suitable for your roof.

Can one flat section be replaced separately?

The scope can cover a defined section when its connections to the remaining roof can be addressed properly.
